The University of Nevada Reno is a campus of the University of Nevada based in the city of Reno and is a well-established and prestigious university. They offer a huge range of programs including agricultural research, mining-related engineering, natural sciences and business administration. The university is best known for it’s journalism college, which has produced 6 Pulitzer Prize winners. It is also home to the only medical school in Nevada - the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

Reno is a beautiful city and consists of some of the most picturesque scenery in the country. The population is around 400,000 and is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. There is plenty to do in Reno and it is a fantastic place for students. There are a huge range of cultural activities including several museums, art galleries as well as regular operas, theatre shows and ballets. Reno is also less than an hours drive from some of the best snowboarding and skiing regions in the country. It is also close to the beautiful Lake Tahoe.

The campus is picturesque and is surrounded by beautiful mountains and is also home to the University of Nevada, Reno Arboretum. The arboretum was established in 1985 and has a huge collection of trees, flowers, native flora and shrubs. The main quad of the university is lined with 16 mature Elm trees. There are also several fountains and statues throughout the campus making it a really beautiful place to learn and live.

It is so beautiful that it has been used as a setting in many Hollywood movies including Andy Hardy’s Blonde Trouble, Apartment for Peggy, and Mother is a Freshman.

There are plenty of opportunities for sports players at the university too. The large and modern Mackay Stadium has a seating capacity of 7,500 and the football team - the Nevada Wolf Pack - play at the stadium. The university’s men’s basketball team is very successful, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. In 2007 Nevada was rated the ninth best in men’s basketball. They also offer a huge range of other sports including rifle shooting, soccer, women’s softball as well as swimming and diving.

The school’s newspaper - The Nevada Sagebrush - is published every Tuesday and it hires 40 staff to create it. It is highly regarded as one of the United States best student newspapers, and won the Pacemaker award in 2008 at the Associated Collegiate Press conference in Kansas. Many of the students who work on the paper have gone onto top journalism jobs after college.

The university offers bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees across their nine colleges and seven schools. There is also a Basque Center that is fully sponsored by the University of Nevada Reno to accommodate the large amount of Basque speaking in northern Nevada.
Admission into the University of Nevada Reno is not easy, and the university attracts some of the top students from around the country and across the world. There are over 70 different majors to choose from at the university, and all are taught from world-class lecturers and tutors using some of the most modern and up-to-date facilities.

Admission into the university is highly competitive, and all prospective students must have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average to be accepted. You can also submit an SAT score, of which the verbal and math score combined must be a minimum of 1040. There are also a range of scholarships on offer from the university. All students with a high academic index are automatically awarded scholarships. If your academic index is 90+ you will be offered a $2500 scholarship, if your academic index is 80-89 you will receive a $1500 scholarship, and if your academic index is 70-79 you will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

It is a large university with nearly 17,000 students, 12,000 of which are undergraduates. There are approximately 1,000 faculty members.

The university offers a huge range of accommodation options to suit every taste and budget. There are seven residential halls around the campus, all of which offer different facilities and styles. Canada Hall for example offers fully furnished apartment-style accommodation. There are also women-only residence halls.
